About Tommie A. Harsley
Tommie A. Harsley III is the pastor of Grace New Covenant Church (GNCC) in St. Louis Missouri. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Healing Hands International, an organization he co-founded with his wife Darlene to provide medical care and medicine to people in some of the poorest places on earth.
In September of 2013, Pastor Harsley was kidnapped from his home by a group of unidentified armed men. Darlene escaped the abduction and sought help from a neighbor who called 911 for help. The police quickly located Pastor Harsley’s abandoned vehicle but were unable to find him. For six days, Darlene and friends and family prayed for Tommie’s safe return. Darlene knew that God was able to do anything but understood the necessity of her continued prayers.
On September 17, 2013, Darlene received a phone call from the police department informing her that they had found Pastor Tommie Harsley. He was bound and gagged in a wooded area of the county. Darlene was extremely thankful that her husband had returned home safely, but she still wanted to know why this happened. Darlene’s faith in God remains strong because she believes that this event is all part of His larger plan for their lives.
Darlene knows He has a reason and purpose for everything He does. Darlene and Pastor Harsley believe that God allowed this kidnapping to happen as a test of their faith. Darlene and her husband know that there is nothing out there too difficult for the Lord.
